Learning Types

Learning Psychologists have categorised students into 7 different types of learning preferences:

  1. Visual
  2. Aural
  3. Verbal
  4. Physical
  5. Logical
  6. Social
  7. Solitary

The good news is that we can develop and contextualize learning resources for all these learning types.

  1. Visual: Learners with this type of preference learn by watching and observing.
  2. Aural: Learners with an aural preference learn better when listening to somebody.
  3. Verbal: Words make a powerful impact on these learners. They learn best by reading.
  4. Physical: These learners want to experience before undersatnding a concept.
  5. Logical: These learners need to understand the logic behind teh concept before accepting it.
  6. Social: These learners are extroverts and learn best with groups.
  7. Solitary: These learners are usually introverts and learn best when doing it without any distraction, alone.

Another important point to be realized here is the fact that most people fall into more than one category. A good learning package is one in which people with all these learning types are catered for.
